Math Tutor Driven by Principles, Passion, and Student Potential
Reducing mental stress and enhancing student wellnessA Message from our Founder
Wilson Tai
Founder & Managing Director
Born and raised in the USA, I have been a successful math tutor and classroom teacher in North America and Asia for over a decade. During that time, I've seen student wellness decline at an alarming rate due to school stress and life pressures. It's painful to see people so stressed out at such a young age. Moreover, studies show that math tends to be a very stressful subject for most students. This math stress can be lowered or eliminated with the right tutor.
Overcoming Math Obstacles
I've heard students say, “I’m just not a math person,” or “I must be bad at math because everyone else seems to get it.” This idea of one's self is harmful and false. With a strong mindset, every student can improve at math if they are taught effectively.
For many students, the odds might be stacked against them succeeding in math class—a noisy or distracting classroom environment, weak math fundamentals due to bad teaching, or busy schedules with no time to properly focus on math. I founded Expat Math Tutoring to help them beat those odds. All they might need is a confidence boost to understand concepts better and increase their test scores. This leads to lower student stress. Our mission is really an equation:
greater confidence + lower stress = higher scores + maximum student wellness.
Track Record of Success
My education and experiences have honed my skills at reaching all types of learners. I earned my Bachelor of Science from top-ranked MIT in mathematical economics. As an IGCSE and IB teacher at United World College of South East Asia, my high average test scores were due in part to research-proven “concept-based learning” techniques. And in low-income urban Los Angeles, my AP Calculus students had such high pass rates and average scores that one of my colleagues called it "some Jaime Escalante wizardry."
My Promise to You
I am the father of two young girls named Clara and Madelyn. To me, there is nothing worse than seeing your children unhappy or needlessly struggle. So here is my promise from one parent to another: I promise to tutor your children with the same care, attention, and dedication I would give to my own kids. Period.
